John 4:24 – Worship in Spirit and Truth
The Law of Christ is love, not that love is the only law, but love is every law. If the only command today is “love,” and we are “free” to worship however because God left it up to us to define how to show perfect love, wouldn’t that mean we are perfect, and full of perfect love? The reason I need instruction from God on how to show love to both Him and others, is because I am not perfect. The reason I respect His silence is because instruction is found in what exists, not in what is not. God does not say, “Worship in spirit” or “Worship in spirit only” but “worship in spirit and in truth.” Truth is not found in silence nor like Pilate who asked, “what is truth and walked away” but “Your word is truth” (Jn 17.17). Genesis 1 displays the nothingness of silence and the power of speech. What happened when God was silent? Nothing. “Then God said” and life and everything began. When “God said,” life became the law of the land.
