John 2,19 – Water to Wine; Blood and Water
In John 2, Jesus turns the water into wine. While most of the time the discussion turns to whether the wine was alcoholic or not, we miss a truly beautiful lesson. The water was used for purification (2:6). The jars which had contained water were used for purification. When refilled this is what was turned to wine. Wine symbolizes blood. John is the only writer to record that at the crucifixion, wherein we find our purification, out of Jesus’ side when pierced came blood and water (19:34). So the miracle which was performed when it not yet Jesus’ hour (2:4) symbolizes when it was Jesus’ hour.
