Praying 1 Thessalonians 3:9 – How Can I Thank God for You?
Praying 1 Thessalonians for a Healthy, Growing, Community – How Can I Thank God for You? (3:9)
PRAYER: Oh Savior of mine and others. Thank you for people that bring me joy, not because of what they do for me; but because of what you did for them through me – you saved them. In my life I want and need more of that kind of joy! Amen.
DEVOTIONAL: Think of the person most dear to you, that brings the most joy. Connect that person to an event. Did you think of a spouse on your wedding day, or the day your child was born? Both occasions brought joy and prayer, thanking God for that person in your life. This is because of what that person does and has done for you. That’s not selfish, it’s just human. Relationships are built upon what we get and give. This text displays a higher level of joy and thanksgiving. Paul is asking, “How can my thanks to God equal my joy for you?” I only know of one relationship that brings such a distinctive level and complete joy. It is seeing someone we taught saved by Jesus. That joy is unique. It can even leave you dumbfounded as to how to thank God for such a person.
