Praying 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 – God Will Do It

God Will Do It! – 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24
(Praying God’s Way to Healthy Growing Communities)
PRAYER: Oh Almighty, it is too easy to live in pain without reflection. Whether our suffering is due to genetics, accidental circumstances, or evil people, give us foresight to remember You are faithful. You will keep us whole in the resurrection. Through the One who is the Resurrection, amen.
TEXT: “Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely. And may your whole spirit, soul, and body be kept sound and blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful; he will do it.” (CSB’17 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24)
DEVOTIONAL: Faith, love, hope, fill this letter. Oh, and pain. And death. And pain not knowing what will happen to those who died. Their sufferings were not from illness; but from the ill will of unbelievers leading to persecution. That pain led to death. Take that into consideration when reading today’s two verses.
“What part of me will survive death”? All of me, body, soul, and spirit. “Why will all of me survive”? God is faithful. “How will all this be done”? God will do it!
Right now, you probably are not personally acquainted with persecution (although it may be coming). But, how familiar are you with pain? As someone who woke up one morning at age 5 or 6, unable walk (thankfully temporary), I can identify. Therefore, let’s consider five good reminders pain gives us:
1) How gifted by God surgeons, doctors, nurses, and other healers can be.
2) How marvelous God made our bodies to re-heal themselves in so many ways. It is a foreshadow of even a greater healing!
3) How inferior modern medicine will always be to Jesus’s miracles, where a man lame from birth not only was miraculously healed, but miraculously taught how to walked and jump for joy (Acts 3). Again, a foreshadowing!
4) How pain is a daily reminder of death and our cursed world. It is too easy to only see the beauty when pain free.
5) How much greater than all this is forgiveness of sins and a renewed resurrected body.
Whether pain from persecution, viruses, accidents, birth abnormalities, age, and whatever you are enduring, remember, “He who calls you is faithful; He will do it.”
