10 Contrasts Between Jesus’s Birth and Death
Jesus began His incarnated life by coming to be born on earth; and ended His life by leaving this earth to return to Heaven. What other “contrasts” and “opposites” are there between Jesus’s birth and death?
1. Jesus began His incarnated life with a Scripture affirming, “God with us”; and ended with a Scripture asking, “My God, My God why have you forsaken me?”
2. Jesus began His incarnated life born at the knees of Mary; and ended His life dying with Mary at His crucified feet.
3. Jesus began His incarnated life lying in a manger; and ended His life being laid down on a cross.
4. Jesus began His incarnated life being wrapped in swaddling clothes; and ended His life with soldiers casting lots for His robe.
5. Jesus began His incarnated life with a star shining brightly in the night sky; and ended His life with the sun darkened in the day.
6. Jesus began His incarnated life with strangers coming to be with Him; and ended His life with friends deserting Him.
7. Jesus began His incarnated life with three gifts for a king; and ended His life with three crosses for criminals.
8. Jesus began His incarnated life being worshiped as King of the Jews; and end His life being crucified for being King of the Jews.
9. Jesus began His incarnated life by escaping the Jewish King; and ended His life by not escaping the Roman Governor.
10. Jesus began His incarnated life by escaping with His life in Egypt among Gentiles; and ended His life by being killed in Jerusalem among Gentiles and Jews.
It is fitting Jesus’s beginning and end are opposites because the gospel has that effect on us – the gospel changes us sinners into saints.
