Acts 5:21 – NASB vs. HCSB vs. ESV
Acts 5:21 NASB Upon hearing this, they entered into the temple about daybreak and began to teach. Now when the high priest and his associates came, they called the Council together, even all the Senate of the sons of Israel, and sent orders to the prison house for them to be brought.
Acts 5:21 HCSB In obedience to this, they entered the temple complex at daybreak and began to teach. When the high priest and those who were with him arrived, they convened the Sanhedrin–the full Senate of the sons of Israel–and sent orders to the jail to have them brought.
Acts 5:21 ESV And when they heard this, they entered the temple at daybreak and began to teach. Now when the high priest came, and those who were with him, they called together the council and all the senate of the people of Israel and sent to the prison to have them brought.
The HCSB decided to translate sunedrion by the name we are familiar with, the Sanhedrin. I was actually surprised to learn in this comparison that the NASB and the ESV never use the word Sanhedrin.
