Acts 8:25 NASB So, when they had solemnly testified and spoken the word of the Lord, they started back to Jerusalem, and were preaching the gospel to many villages of the Samaritans.
Acts 8:25 HCSB Then, after they had testified and spoken the message of the Lord, they traveled back to Jerusalem, evangelizing many villages of the Samaritans.
Acts 8:25 ESV Now when they had testified and spoken the word of the Lord, they returned to Jerusalem, preaching the gospel to many villages of the Samaritans.
One of the translation decisions by the HCSB that does not seem to get a lot of attention is their use of “evangelizing” and evangelized instead of “preaching/preached the gospel.” Considering the Greek is euaggelizō, and the commonality of evangelist in the English, the HCSB has the perfect translation.
