Offended vs Thankful
Offended vs. Thankful
When I go to a restaurant, often I ask for a gluten-free menu or look for marked options on the regular menu. Sometimes I have to look at an allergy menu which is far more info than I want or need! If they have a gluten-free hamburger bun then I’m in West Virginia (i.e. “almost heaven”)!
Most of the restaurants don’t. Some do cater to people like me. And here is the life lesson:
1. We can choose to be offended and not frequent “intolerant” gluten-intolerant restaurants. That is partly how the free market works. Being Libertarian in mindset, I have no problem with such. Let the free-market decide.
2. However, when restaurants do show “tolerance” to the gluten-intolerant, I can choose to be happy and thankful. They don’t have to, but I readily admit they do so mainly for Capitalistic reasons – to gain customers and make money.
Our life lesson is we get to choose our attitude. Do we want to go through life offended or thankful? One of those makes us happier. More importantly, one of those makes God happy. I know this because of the numerous passages that say “give thanks”. This passage commands, “be thankful” – “And let the peace of Christ, to which you were also called in one body, rule your hearts. And be thankful.” (CSB’17 Colossians 3:15)
For you see, my thankfulness is more than for finding non-lethal food! My thankfulness is for more than the restaurant. Amazingly, my thankfulness is to God for saving me from my sins, and that heavenly attitude changes me towards even something as insignificant as a gluten-free hamburger bun. Be thankful.
