Ephesians 5:14 – Sound the Alarm!
I set the alarm. Then I hit the snooze. Twice. Then I reset the alarm for later. But this is not about resetting the alarm. Again. And again. It is about the alarm itself. We set them because we need them. But….
Do we set it to go off gently, gradually getting louder until we are comfortably awakened?
Do we set it to something annoying and loud to startle us awake?
Do we set the alarm across the room so we have to physically get up to turn it off?
Do we assign some kind of brain teaser that has to be solved to finally turn it off, waking us up physically and mentally?
Some of these probably describe your morning experiences. But apply them to spiritual alarms, people personally confronting us, even preaching. What kind of spiritual alarm do we need to awaken spiritually? Have we ever proverbially thrown the spiritual alarm across the room? Or do we simply prefer not having one thinking, “I will wake up on my own”?
NASU Ephesians 5:14: “For this reason it says, “Awake, sleeper, And arise from the dead, And Christ will shine on you.”
