Why Live Holy Lives?
“Be holy for I am holy” (1 Peter 1:16) is enough reason to be holy. However, Peter expands in chapter 2 other reasons, both inwardly spiritual and outwardly focused:
1. Because we have been born again – 2:1
2. To grow into our salvation – 2:2
3. Proof we have tasted the kindness of the Lord – 2:3
4. Because we are coming into God’s presence as precious – 2:4
5. To offer spiritual sacrifices – 2:5
6. To proclaim God’s excellence – 2:9
7. So that others will glorify God – 2:12
Summed up, these reasons are:
1. Because God has saved us.
2. Because we worship God.
3. Because others need evangelizing to be saved (that is if “day of vistation” – 2:12 – is referring to this age in which Jesus already visited and not the 2nd Coming).
