1 Thessalonians 5:23 – The Trinity
Got asked to explain the Trinity on Facebook. We can explain, illustrate and hopefully understand, but since men have enough difficultly understanding women, this is indeed a daunting task. The simplest illustration might be the most neglected, and that is God’s. We are made in the image of God. Therefore we should look to how God made us to see God. The image of God is moral and authoritative. I suggest the image of God is also triune, three in one, and so is each person. 1 Thessalonians 5:23 says we are spirit, soul and body. Humans are three in one. Our bodies are our flesh. Our spirits are immortal. Our souls are the breath that animates. We could even apply these three part to the trinity. God is spirit, Jesus becomes flesh, and the Holy Spirit breathes life into as we are born again of the Spirit. As we are one, but three, so is God one but three.
