2 Thessalonians 1:1 – Who Wrote 1 and 2 Thessalonians?
In studying 2 Thessalonians, we discussed how often “we” “our” “us” is used instead of “I” or “me.” Silas and Timothy were not apostles and yet “we command.” So what right did they have to command as co-authors with Paul? We gave three: 1) Apparently they were inspired too; 2) They had a relationship with these people and relationships is often what Paul used to command more than apostleship; 3) They set good examples, worthy of following. So the application is if we as teachers and preachers today stand in the place of telling others what to do, we must speak as God speaks, have a relationship with people, and live worthy of imitation.
