Praying 1 Thessalonians 1:1 – People
Around us are things and people we have become so accustomed to, that we stop noticing – and others have stopped paying attention to us. I’ve learned I also do that with the opening lines of biblical letters: “Let’s ignore that and get to the good stuff”. What’s so important about the introductions? People! People are worth paying attention to!
Think about it: Would any of us know who Paul is, or even lesser known Christians like Silvanus (Silas) and Timothy, if not for Jesus Christ? From great nations, great men and women have risen and fallen into the dust of history, most forgotten. And yet common Jews and Gentiles, even a mixed-race young man named Timothy, are common names all because of a crucified, uncommon Jew named Jesus.
Praying 1 Thessalonians 1:1 – “Dear God the Father and Lord Jesus Christ. Help me to not overlook people, but to thank them and you for their meaningful impact in my life. May I be awed at my small place in history, and beyond into eternity, all because of and only because of, Jesus. Amen.
