John 13 – The Foot-Washing Foreshadows the Cross
The foot-washing scene foreshadows the cross:
- Jesus removes His robe; and the Romans cast lots for His robe.
- Jesus washes feet of the apostles; and the Romans nail His feet to the cross.
- Jesus offers bread to Judas; and someone offers sour wine to Jesus.
- Jesus washes with water the feet of disciples; and Jesus washes with blood the souls of disciples.
- Jesus speaks to John about His betrayer; and Jesus speaks to John about His mother.
- Jesus eats the Passover Lamb; Jesus becomes the Passover Lamb.
- Jesus confuses His disciples with the foot-washing; and Jesus confuses His disciples with the crucifixion.
- Jesus is at the feet of His apostles; and at the cross a few disciples are at the feet of Jesus.
- Jesus is he only one who should not have washed the feet; and Jesus is the only one who should not have died.
