John 7 – Jesus’s Parents and Brothers
No doubt Joseph and Mary were good parents. But even good parents say things they shouldn’t. Can you imagine how easy it would have been for them to say to James, “Why can’t you be more like your brother, Jesus?” As we know, for some reason Jesus’ brothers were not his biggest fans (John 7). Could it have been living with a perfect Sibling? No one knows. Sibling rivalry is nothing parents should spur on, especially when it leads to a child disrespecting themselves or doubting their parents love. The truth is none of us are like our big brother Jesus (Hebrews 2). Thankfully we don’t have to. He did it for us. So stop trying to rival Jesus with your own self-righteousness. Stop thinking God can’t forgive you or love you like he does his unique Son. He can because he is the perfect parent.
