John 7:17-18 – Want to be Wrong
There is an irony in studying that is so uncomfortable it often controls our conclusions: We have to want to be wrong. Most often we couch it positively: we have to want to be right. But before we can be right we must first be willing to be proven wrong. It is the same with the gospel. Before it is good news we can be saved; it is bad news we are lost. It is the willingness, humility, and love for truth that makes us want to be proven wrong so we can be right, rather than protecting our being right even if it means we are blind to being wrong (Jn.7:17-18).
