John 9:31 – Scripture vs. Illogical Logic
Human logic can prove any Biblical point we want to make, even if unbiblical. For example, I can “prove” it is impossible to pray for forgiveness:
- “God does not hear the prayers of sinners” (Jn.9:31).
- When I am a sinner I need to pray for forgiveness
- When I pray for forgiveness I am sinner.
- Therefore, God does not hear me pray for forgiveness because God does not hear the prayer of sinners.
The point of this is not to ridicule logic (I wanted to become a professor of logic), but rather to warn us how easy it is for us to prove whatever we want, even making it sound right. The end of our argument should be with scripture, not just the beginning with an opinionated conclusion. The best way to prove everything and anything is not with human reasoning, theology, or tradition; but with a simple, “It is written.”
