John – Jesus – The Same Yet Different and Greater
Nothing Jesus did should have caused alarm; Moses, Elijah, Elisha and others likewise performed miracles. And yet, after Jesus cured a blind man he claimed, “Throughout history no one has ever heard of someone opening the eyes of a person born blind.” (John 9:32).
Nothing Jesus taught should have caused consternation; all the prophets taught and even condemned even Israel. And yet, after hearing Jesus, “The servants answered, “No man ever spoke like this!”” (John 7:46).
However, what Jesus claimed about Himself makes all the difference between Himself and others: Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, before Abraham was, I AM.”” (John 8:58).
Since God is all-powerful, and even appeared as flesh in a theophany (Genesis 18), why should it be so shocking the Messiah is God in the flesh? (John 1:1,14).
