Biblical truth standing on its spiritual head to get our eternal attention.

Mark 1-3 – Mi Casa es God’s Casa

After Jesus’ baptism and wilderness fight, Jesus goes to several synagogues preaching the gospel of God and casting out demons. These “houses of God” are not the only tactical settings for Jesus’ invasion into Caesar’s and Satan’s territory.

Mark 1:29ff – Jesus had called Andrew and Simon and is now in their home. Apparently these brothers lived together along with their families. Jesus heals Simon’s mother-in-law along with the throngs – “the whole city gathered at the door” (1:33).

Mark 2:1ff – Jesus comes to His home in Caperneaum. This time “there was not any more room near the door” (2:2). Jesus’ own house is the scene where men dug a hole in the roof to help their paralyzed friend get to Jesus.

Mark 2:14ff – Jesus calls Matthew. Immediately Matthew throws a party and invites his friends – other tax collectors and sinners. Jesus came to Matthew’s home to seek the spiritually sick (1:17).

Mark 3:20ff – Jesus comes home again. This time there are so many people Jesus doesn’t even have time to eat and neither do His apostles (3:20). Here is where Jesus say, “If a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand” (3:25). Dramatically in His own house He declares spiritual family supersedes physical family (3:31ff).

Jesus took the war to the most important and intimate battlefield – the home. How are we using our houses? Are we use them to war against Satan by inviting friends to hear about Jesus? Is our house God’s house?
