How Many Genders Are There?
I heard an argument that because of the “curse” in Genesis 3, it is possible that post-creation there are more than two genders or sexes. Here’s the number one argument against that –
Jesus, when answering a question thousands of years after sin entered the world, applied a pre-curse statement from scripture to cover it –
Matthew 19 (CSB) 4) “Haven’t you read,” he replied, “that he who created them in the beginning made them male and female,” 5) and he also said, “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two will become one flesh? 6) “So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, let no one separate.”
Which of Jesus’s statements no longer are true? None of them are false.
1. There is still male and female.
2. God approved marriage is still between a male and female.
3. Marriage is still a one-flesh relationship.
4. Marriage is still designed to be as long as both live.
5. Marriage is still a God-designed relationship that man should not destroy.
And, just for emphasis, God Incarnate still believed thousands of years later that there was and is and will always be – male and female. Birth defects are like any other physical defects. They are not the definition of humans according to Jesus. Jesus said, male and female. Not gender fluidity or something else. If there is not male and female, then homosexuality is not sinful if one male claims to be female. What again did Jesus say? Male and female.
I will stick to Jesus’s argument.
