Matthew 17:1 – The Inner Three
If I was one of the Twelve, I wonder if I would have been included as part of the inner three. If not, I wonder how I would have handled the exclusion. Too many I fear would have quit, thinking “What makes Peter, James, and John so special?” This is asking, “Why not me?” or “What’s wrong with me?” Too few would have thought maybe Jesus knows Peter, James, and John needed something extra special. James will be the first apostle to be martyred. John will be the last left alive. Peter will be the featured mouthpiece of Jesus. Being excluded doesn’t mean something is wrong with us. Sometimes it means we don’t need what others do.
