Miscellaneous Thoughts on the 2 Greatest Commands: 1) Why is loving God the greater command? It is because God is greater than ourselves and neighbors. 2) Loving God is not only the greater command, it is the foundation command. It is impossible to truly love God and not love our neighbors or ourselves. When we fail to fulfill the 2nd great command it is a fundamental misunderstanding of the First’s implications and requirements. 3) Loving God first is sometimes harder because we cannot see God; but loving our neighbor is sometimes harder because we can see them. 4) These two are the greatest, as Jesus said, because everything hangs on them. They are also the life’s unfinished goals of us all.
