Matthew 5:3 (NASB) “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 5:3 (HCSB – 2005) “Blessed are the poor in spirit, because the kingdom of heaven is theirs.
Matthew 5:3 (HCSB – 2009) “The poor in spirit are blessed, for the kingdom of heaven is theirs.
Matthew 5:3 (ESV) “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
In the update of 2009, the HCSB went away from the traditional reading. This is one of the times where I do not know which I prefer. The traditional has that strong feel to it by beginning with “blessed” as does the Greek. But that is not how we speak in English with the adjective leading the sentence.
