Matthew 7:7 – The ASK Study Method
The ASK Prayer and Study Method
Jesus famously preached to ask, seek, and knock in prayer (Matthew 7:7). We should pray while we study:
A – Technical Study: When we are spiritual youths we ask, “What does this text mean?”
S – Personal Study: As we mature we personally see the need to do more than understand the text. We ask and seek “How does the text apply to me?”
K – Divine Study: In our spiritual old age when studying the scriptures we ask and seek a deeper meaning than knowing and practicing the text. By knocking on heaven’s door we desire to find in the text, “How can I become more like God?”
As Jesus preached we must keep asking, seeking, and knocking because God will answer our prayer (Matthew 7:7), to obtain a “surpassing righteousness” (Matthew 5:20), that leads ultimately to “be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect” (Matthew 5:48). Pray while you study.
