Romans 5:8 – Tolerating the Left and Right

Why is it impossible for unbelievers to understand how a Christian can be against a sin, and yet love the sinner? First and as always, we believers must look at ourselves. Do we say “love” but act in hate? Do we preach against sin, but refuse to associate with sinners? Second, despite all the talk of tolerance among “the left;” they can’t tolerate anyone who has a different set of beliefs and lifestyles when that different group disagrees with them. And ironically, this is the key of being a Christian. Believers can and do tolerate people who disagree with us because that does not entail accepting their behavior as in agreement with ours. How do we do this? We accept the fact that “God proves His own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us!” (Romans 5:8). As we can see, the deepest reason why it is impossible for unbelievers to understand how a Christian can be against a sin, and yet love the sinner, is because unbelievers can’t believe in a God that does that exact same thing. Let’s make sure as believers, we do.
