Genesis 3 – The First False Gospel Preacher?
A spiritual being, who had left heaven, came to earth. Once here, he dwelt in corporeal form. He came to talk to humanity about life and death; encouraging the people to become more like God.
This is a familiar story of… the first temptation and fall in Eden (Genesis 3:1-5).
Satan is a spiritual being who “incarnated” to some extent a serpent (Revelation 12). Speaking to Eve and Adam about life and death and becoming like God, he became a false “prophet” by contradicting God’s word. In the temptation scene, Satan reveals, in shocking similitudes, the gospel to come.
Shocked? Don’t be. This continues even today. Satan is a false god of this world (2 Corinthians 4:4), who twists truth to wins souls. He disguises himself as an angel of light with false apostles (2 Corinthians 11:13-14). Jesus even warned about false Messiahs (Matthew 23). Satan can’t create anything, so he copies and twists that which is God’s.
Here’s the point for our temptation scenes today: Starting in Genesis 3 and continuing today, Satan is mocking in mimicry the gospel of Jesus Christ; and everything associated with it. This is a dangerous warning sign. Having been warned, we need to ensure we are following the true gospel (Galatians1), and are part of God’s true one body and church (Ephesians 4). Don’t fall for a fake scam artist, even if he is another spiritual being who once lived in heaven, and came to speak to us about life and death, and becoming more like God.
