Genesis 37-50 – The Temptations of Dysfunctional Families #4
Being emotionally rejected brings the temptation of accepting nothingness from fear of everything, including being hurt again by others. Nothingness leads to accepting loneliness when the Creator said it is not good to be alone (Gen 2.18). Hurt tempts us to accept existing outside of relationships, instead of living freely and intimately. Our souls become a wilderness of want. Without healing, we become emotional hermits. In raising adopted children who suffered from RAD (Reactive Attachment Disorder), I learned the very real effect of being unable to attach. With prayer, patience, hard work and correct parenting skills, such trauma can be overcome. Whether you suffered such or not, ask yourself this question – Are you the type that can dangerously insulate yourself and become nothing but a performer for the public? I know I am. Joseph is unashamed to weep in front of his brothers (Gen 45.14-15).
