Being affected by a lack of love can cause us to redirect our efforts into “safe” sources. Relationships with those that never will hurt us become the only relationships we have. People look for that unconditional love found in animals and pets. Being a pet owner, I appreciate highly those who rescue. Dogs have an amazing ability to love more unconditionally than people. As someone said, be the type of person your dog thinks you are. Sometimes animal rescuers rescue out of empathy, seeing in the animals themselves. Not all “animal lovers” are like this, but some are. Help the helpless not out of a sense of helplessness yourself, but out of the strength of love. Joseph forms other relationships, getting married and having children (Gen 41.50-52).
