Biblical truth standing on its spiritual head to get our eternal attention.

1 Kings 11:26-40 – Who Am I?

1. I was not born into a royal family.

2. Due to my abilities, I became noticed and appreciated by the king.

3. I was appointed by the king to be over others.

4. A prophet anointed me king while the other king still ruled.

5. I was anointed by God to be king due to the king’s sin.

6. I fled the king due to his jealousy.

7. I fled to another country

8. After the king died, I became king.

9. When I became king, I did not rule over all of Israel.

10. I began a new dynasty, different from the previous king.

11. God promised me a lasting dynasty.

12. There was war between my new people and the people of the old dynasty.

13. I led the nation in worshipping God.

14. Because of my sin, a prophet rebuked me.

The obvious and correct answer is, David and Saul. Who are the other two, which makes for an ironic situation? The irony is this. Solomon becomes the new Saul, persecuting Jeroboam, the new David. One important footnote, the dynasty of David was a promise unconditionally fulfilled in Jesus. The dynasty promise to Jeroboam was conditional.
