1 Samuel 3:1-2 – A Triad of Light
Our text is written in the days of the Judges, a dark period of time in more than one way. The dawn of a new era begins with Samuel, the last Judge and the beginning of a prophetic frenzy for the next few hundred years (Acts 3.24). In the call of Samuel we have three allusions to light.
- Visions were rare
- Eli’s Sight was failing
- The Lamp of God had not yet been put out.
Visions and hearing are often coupled together. The Light of light will lead to the calling of Samuel, and the hearing of God’s voice.
