2 Chronicles 22:10 NASB (10) Now when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she rose and destroyed all the royal offspring of the house of Judah.
2 Chronicles 22:10 HCSB (10) When Athaliah, Ahaziah’s mother, saw that her son was dead, she proceeded to annihilate all the royal heirs of the house of Judah.
2 Chronicles 22:10 ESV Now when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the royal family of the house of Judah.
Nuance is an important part of words. And while “destroyed” is technically and linguistically correct, “annihilate” is the more thorough English equivalent for what Athaliah intended. Something can be destroyed and still exist. To annihilate is to destroy beyond existence.
