2 Kings 9:20 – The Way You Drive
The Way You Drive
What does our driving style say about us, and more importantly, about our relationship with Jesus? Are we slow, fast, cautious, dangerous, courteous, or rude? Do we obey the speed limits or just coast through stop signs?
What would we think if someone could see a car coming down the road, and just by the way the car was being driven know it was us, or at least someone who drives like us? “Yep, that’s Homer! He’s a crazy driver!”
Jehu had that kind of reputation: 2 Kings 9:20 NASB The watchman reported…the driving is like the driving of Jehu the son of Nimshi, for he drives furiously.”
Our driving can say a lot about ourselves. Is our driving an extension of our overall personality, or an aberration of who we are? One man, known for his politeness, willingly opened doors for lady after lady after lady. But once he got behind the wheel, he would almost run down those same ladies in the parking lot! Unintentionally his mind was probably already down the road.
Why is road rage so easy? Is it because of anonymity? As if masked, we easily yell, scream, tailgate, but hopefully not cuss or extend certain digits; and then clandestinely drive away with our secret identity intact.
But what if we all had a sign on our car that read, “How’s my driving? Call 1-800 God In Me.” Many in our congregation have a bumper sticker which reads justachristian.com.
Would such identifications change the way we drive?
Whether or not we remain anonymous, or make a statement with a bumper sticker, our driving does say something about us and our relationship with Jesus. Or at least it should.
