Joshua 6 – Two Kings of Jerusalem
Two Kings of Jerusalem
Joshua, in Joshua 6, fights a battle with many kings. This includes the king of Jerusalem. On this day the sun stood still for almost an entire day. The king of Jerusalem escapes and hides in a cave. He is found and a large stone is rolled over the entrance. When the king is removed from the cave he is hung on a tree. Then at sunset the King’s body is removed and placed again in the cave where he had hidden. Once again a large stone is placed over the mouth of the cave.
Jesus (the Greek form of Joshua), in the four gospels, fights a battle against kings, against both Rome and the Jews. This includes who is the true King of Jerusalem and beyond. The king is hung on a tree, and the sun is blacked out for three hours. The true King of Jerusalem does not escape, and close to sundown is buried in a cave. Later, by those who come to the cave at sunrise, Jesus is not found. The large stone has been rolled away from the entrance. The cave forever will remain empty.
