How Do You Measure Success?
His version doesn’t say enough, but what it does say is meaningful and a good start. I’m referring to a poem by Ralph Waldo Emerson – “How Do You Measure Success?”. To make it more meaningful, I added scriptures which show who has lived the most successful life:
How do you measure success?
To laugh often and much; (John 15:11 – the greatest laughter is from joy)
To win the respect of intelligent people (Luke 2:47) and the affection of children; (Matthew 19:13-15)
To earn the appreciation of honest critics; (Matthew 22:46)
And endure the betrayal of false friends; (John 13:27)
To appreciate beauty; (Matthew 6:28-29)
To find the best in others; (John 1:47)
To leave the world a bit better (John 3:16)
Whether by a healthy child, (Mark 5:41-42)
A redeemed social condition, (Mark 5:24-29)
Or a job well done, (John 19:30)
To know even one other life has breathed (Luke 7:11-17)
Because you lived (Luke 1:13-17)
This is to have succeeded.
