How Genesis 2-3 Helps Interpret 1 Corinthians 14:33-36
As Genesis 3 wrongfully reverses Genesis 2; 1 Corinthians 14 corrects Genesis 3:1-7
I. What is happening in Genesis 3?
1. A question is wrongfully asked by the serpent to the woman about the word of God.
2. Then Eve takes the lead over her husband and judges both what the serpent and God said.
3. Eve did not ask her husband.
II. What is happening in 1 Corinthians 14:33-36?
1. Questions are not allowed to be asked by the women about whether prophets are speaking the word of God.
2. Women are not allowed to take the lead over their husbands by judging what the prophets said.
3. Women are to ask their husbands.
While obviously this two scenes are not an exact one to one comparison (i.e. women are not serpentsor Satan), there are enough similarities to invite comparison “as the law/torah says.”
