How To Evangelize
How to Evangelize
The simplest, clearest, verse on how to evangelize is….
I’ve changed my mind over the years. No longer do I think “personal work” classes are necessary to teach how to evangelize. I’ll teach them, but the reality is every Christian should already know how. That’s because every Christian just needs to tell their own conversion story. That’s what Paul did (Acts 9,22,26).
Maybe more fundamental than that is evangelism is just being a disciple of Jesus (as my friend Royce Bell likes to say). Notice the following words of Jesus: “‘Follow me,’ Jesus told them, ‘and I will make you fish for people [i.e. fishers of men).’ Immediately they left their nets and followed him.” (CSB’17 Mark 1:17-18)
1. “Follow Jesus” means act like Jesus.
2. “I will make you” means rely on Jesus’s power and example instead of man’s “tricks of the trade”. Evangelism is not about having the right personality. It is about Jesus being the right power fueling you.
3. “Fishers of people” means go where the people are just like you go to the water and not the desert to catch fish.
4. “Immediately leaving their nets” means get your priorities in order.
5. “They followed Jesus” means do more than want to, do it!
The might be the simplest, clearest, verse on how to evangelize.
