Jesus Confuses Me
Jesus Confuses Me
Jesus confuses me. Only those with enough hubris to always know exactly what others should do based upon “what would Jesus do?” are never confused.
Take for example, Luke 12:13 (CSB) Someone from the crowd said, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.”
I have a brother. That sounds like a reasonable request. This beseecher is not asking for all, just a share.
What will Jesus do?
Jesus’s response, however, is not my response: (14) “Friend,” he said to him, “who appointed me a judge or arbitrator over you? ”
Jesus said, “It’s none of my business.” What interested the brother did not interest Jesus. Isn’t that rude? How is that loving your neighbor as yourself?
But then, Jesus goes further by chastising the questioner as being greedy: (15) He then told them, “Watch out and be on guard against all greed, because one’s life is not in the abundance of his possessions.”
That is what Jesus did.
Is this how you would have handled the situation? Not me. And that serves as a warning to me and hopefully others. Before you know for sure what others should do, make sure, with no doubt, you are never confused by the only One who really does and always did and will know.
PS. – Did you notice what Jesus was interested in? Maybe our life here not only doesn’t consist of life’s possessions – including toilet paper and hand sanitizer. It doesn’t even consist of life itself! That is sobering during this enduring pandemic. Through grace, our heavenly Brother does share His inheritance! Not this life. Life eternal!
