Perryism – When we interpret the Bible don’t interrupt the Holy Spirit
Do not hunt and peck Bible verses for topical sermons and then take the verses out of the original context. The original context is Holy Spirit inspired. This is harder than we realize and all of us are guilty, so much so it might be difficult for us to even pick out examples where we are guilty. Most of the Bible is not like Proverbs. Yes, some verses are so simple and universal that they can be plucked out of context and remain, and there are biblical examples supporting this. This is just a caution to us all to not make the Bible fit our sermons, but to make our sermons fit the Bible.
