“Traditional or Modern Worship?”
Traditional or Modern Worship?
“Is your worship service traditional or contemporary?” That question was asked of me recently. My answer? “Our worship is ancient. It is acapella.” That answer intrigued him.
I went on to explain that instruments of music were used in worship of God in the temple and not elsewhere in the OT. Today we are the temple and our bodies, both as churches and individuals, are the instruments (1 Cor.3,6). As sacrifices were made at the temple, our bodies are living sacrifices (Rom.12:1). As incense was burned at the temple, our prayers from our bodies ascend into heaven (Rev.8:4). Our bodies become the instruments , literally, by physically vibrating as we sing. This matches how most historians view singing in the early church. That too intrigued him. Our worship is ancient.
Isn’t us being God’s temple and instruments more thrilling than both traditional and modern church music? Look at what God makes us to be!
