What does one give up when leaving a “church of Christ” to belong to another church?
1. If they attend a denomination, then they give up the ideal like the churches in the New Testament of which none belonged to a denomination.
2. If they attend a church that doesn’t practice immersion but instead use sprinkling, then they give up a baptism that reenacts the gospel claim of Jesus dying, being buried and resurrected. They even give up the meaning of the word baptize which means immerse.
3. If they attend most every type of church, they give up every first day of the week being celebrated as Christ’s death and resurrection in the Lord’s supper.
4. If they attend a church that doesn’t teach baptism is when we received God’s grace, then they give up all the truth they once defended concerning baptism is for the forgiveness of sins.
5. If they attend a church that uses instrumental music, then they give up worshipping as God’s people did for half a century or more.
6. If they attend a church with a single pastor, then they give up the biblically approved pattern of elders – plural – in every church.
7. If they…are you one of those who gave up a lot of the bible just get something you wanted, or thought you needed? No local congregation is perfect, but how much truth do you have to give up to get something that is not the truth you once believed?
