Your Theology is Showing
One Theology says, “We sin because of inherited sin.” Here’s something all agree on: Adam and Eve sinned because of temptation. So here is an alternative theological perspective: If we had an inherited depravity, Satan would never need to tempt us. We sin, not because of Adam and Eve, but for the same reason as the first human sinners.
One Theology says, “That babies cry and fuss shows their self-centered nature because of total depravity.” Jesus says, “unless you become like children you will never enter the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 18:3). Here’s a different theological take: God created children with an innate belief that there is someone greater than themselves; and someone greater than themselves can meet their needs. Both the Anthropological and Moral Arguments for God’s existence are based on innate responses of human beings of Someone greater than themselves.
One theology says, “All of human suffering caused by humans shows total depravity within mankind.” And yet these same individuals switch to the philosophical Problem of Evil by defending God saying evil exists because of man’s Free Will. So free will yet totally depraved? Another theological take is it shows man is separted by his own free will sin and his lack of personal connection to God. Paul said, “He did this so that they might seek God, and perhaps they might reach out and find him, though he is not far from each one of us. For in him we live and move and have our being, as even some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also his offspring.’” Acts 17:27-28)
Don’t let your theology make you miss and twist God’s truth.
