Isaiah 38:2-3 (NASB) Then Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the LORD, (3) and said, “Remember now, O LORD, I beseech You, how I have walked before You in truth and with a whole heart, and have done what is good in Your sight.” And Hezekiah wept bitterly. Isaiah 38:2-3 (HCSB) […]

Yahweh tells wicked Ahaz to ask for a sign from from the depths of Sheol to the heights of heaven (7:11). Later, referring to the same Person who would be that sign, Immanuel, we find a different fulfillment: Ephesians 4:9-10 (HCSB) 9) But what does “He ascended” mean except that He descended to the lower parts […]

In Isaiah 7, we are all familiar with the “son” that would be a sign (7:14). But before that sign, there is another son that is a sign. In verse 3, Yahweh tells Isaiah to go to Ahaz with his son. That odd fact should be a clue. That son’s name is given, which is […]

The Hebrew for Seraphim (Isaiah 6:2,6) is translated elsewhere as “fiery serpent” (Num.21:6). One commentator suggested a good translation in Isaiah 6 would be “Burning Ones.” The concept of fire and burning is brought out contextually in Isaiah 6:6-7. Makes for an interesting connection to Hebrews 1:7. Makes me wonder what other connections there are.

There is the theory that there are two Isaiah’s. If so, (and I do not believe that is true), have you ever noticed the beautiful symmetry suggesting sole authorship from beginning to end? Heavens and Earth – 1:2; 66:1,22 Sons – 1:2,4; 66:7,8 Zion – 1:8,27; 66:7 Destruction (i.e., fire) – 1:9-10, 31; 66:15-16; 24 […]

Churchianity #1 – When we preach more about the church of Christ than about the Christ of the church. Churchianity #2 – When we speak of being “raised in the church” instead of being raised in the Lord. Churchianity #3 – When we think public sin “brings reproach upon the church” instead of reproach upon the Lord. […]

Commonly, religious people claim America needs to get back to God. They distance themselves from the morally irresponsible who distance themselves from God’s moralities. They worry as the irreligious and anti-religious wreak havoc upon our country and ethical sensibilities. Yet, ironically societal irresponsibility begins with false religion and its false doctrines unknowingly and innocently promoting […]

Tears fall, words fail, weeping a plea within. With silent words, my eyes pray to heaven. When the strong stand by silent and helpless. Tears feel empty to men with caring hearts. Needing to heal those hurting from sin’s darts. When the strong stand by silent and helpless. Tears are from God, our gift for […]

Proverbs 22:6 is used by some/many to prove that if a child is raised right in the Lord, then that child will come back even if he becomes unfaithful. Often this is heard when discussing the qualifications of elders. In reading the verse the other day, I was struck by the word “even.” Using this […]

“Another authenticating feature of the resurrection narrative is that the first appearances of the risen Christ were not to His disciples, but rather to women – to Mary Magdalene and the other women. This must have been an embarrassment to the apostles, Christ’s inner circle. They were likely quite jealous.” “According to Jewish principles of […]
