John 13:1 – Agape Love
If agape love is “to seek the best” then love is 1) a purposed action; 2) based upon divine knowledge that discriminates between bad from good and good from best; 3) that separates and sacrifices self from the other for the other. It is a verb based upon a noun; an outward action founded upon an upward knowledge. Love is Divine wisdom personified and personalized. It is inwardly intended, outwardly extended, and upwardly directed. Love is a great otherness defined by the Great Other.
John 13:1 (HCSB) (1) Before the Passover Festival, Jesus knew that His hour had come to depart from this world to the Father. Having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end.
