What Does Repentance Look Like?

Luke 3:11 – And he would answer and say to them, “The man who has two tunics [the inner and less necessary undergarment (Robertson)] is to share with him who has none; and he who has food is to do likewise.”
Did you notice that repentance here goes in a different direction than, “If you stole a tunic, give it back”? Repentance here doesn’t even necessarily involve anyone sinned against by taking. What it does involve is sharing one’s blessings with those who are in need. If any sin occurred it wasn’t taking; it was not sharing.
The requirement that Jesus came to the Rich Young Ruler comes to mind. While the Rich Young Ruler thought of all the commands he had kept, Jesus was teaching him what true repentance looks like (Mark10:17-27). Have we considered the difference between keeping the commands, and repenting of commands we haven’t kept? If there is a difference, is one more difficult? Does one require more “sacrifice” than the other? Or are all commands kept with an attitude of repentance knowing we haven’t kept all commands?
