Biblical truth standing on its spiritual head to get our eternal attention.

1 + 1 = 3

1 + 1 = 3, if we redefine 3 to mean 2. “That’s ridiculous”, you might be thinking. True, except it is more common than it should be. The Supreme Court redefined “marriage”. More commonly, “You’ve taken me out of context” when they didn’t; or “That’s not what I meant” when that is exactly what you meant; and so on. But that is not really my concern here, but that example is given to show how people use new definitions to force a conclusion they want.
“Baptism” is a transliteration of a word that literally means “immersion”. People have changed the meaning to include sprinkling so they can affirm they have been baptized just as the Bible commands.
“Elder” literally means someone older, and yet a religious organization sends “elders” to knock on people’s door who are only more elderly than a pimply teenager.
There are countless examples and not just in the realm of religion. Beware of arguments that require twisting definitions. As one President famously said, “It depends on what the definition of is, is.” With that logic, and word twisting, 1 + 1 = is.
