Adam and Eve; Cain and Able #2
The morality tale continues. What are we to learn from these twin stories?
1. Similar family situation – husband/wife and brother/brother. Family situations bring out both the best and worst in us. Here I suggest they picture for us tragedy.
2. Similar consequences – death. There is both spiritual death and physical death in both although it is delayed with Adam and Eve.
3. Failed leadership: Adam (“first-born”) and Cain (first-born). Cain freely chose his brother’s death out of being weak. He was weak because God told Cain he had the power to do “right” (4:7). Did Adam freely choose Eve’s death out of weakness? That sounds harsh. However, he was not deceived and followed her in her being deceived while remaining silent. What could have happened if Adam had been a stronger leader?
