Are “We” a Denomination?
“We are not a denomination” is a statement of truth if we are speaking Biblically. However, there are signs people are drifting towards denominationalism because they have become sectarian in their language. Here are phrases commonly heard among us that are not Biblical:
1. Church of Christ preacher.
2. Church of Christ church.
3. I’m Church of Christ.
4. A congregation of the Church of Christ.
5. That’s a Church of Christ school.
The drift from Biblical to Sectarian to Denominational is historically demarcated:
1. Thinking like a denomination.
2. Speaking like a denomination.
3. Acting like a denomination.
4. Becoming a denomination.
5. Accepting you are a denomination.
Some individuals have already gotten to step 5 because I heard said, “The Church of Christ is a denomination, but it is the right denomination”.
“If anyone speaks, let it be as one who speaks God’s words” (1 Peter 4:11).
