Acts 13:33 – NASB vs. HCSB vs. ESV
Acts 13:33 NASB that God has fulfilled this promise to our children in that He raised up Jesus, as it is also written in the second Psalm, ‘YOU ARE MY SON; TODAY I HAVE BEGOTTEN YOU.’

Acts 13:33 ESV this he has fulfilled to us their children by raising Jesus, as also it is written in the second Psalm, “‘You are my Son, today I have begotten you.’
Here we have a switch in how gennaō is translated. In the genealogical account of Matthew, both the NASB and ESV say that so and so “became of the father of,” while the HCSB is more accurate in translating, “fathered.” The same language is found here in Acts 13:33. I wish the HCSB would have kept the Greek verb translated as a verb.
Also, I can only assume the reason why the NASB and ESV chose to translate it as begotten, which is not a word commonly used today. I assume it is because of John 3:16, although it is not the same Greek word.
