Acts 2-3 – When Are We Converted?
When Are We Converted?
Notice how conversion (using the KJV word) in Acts 3:19 corresponds to baptism in Acts 2:38. Here are the parallels:
Acts 2:38 –
1) Repent
2) and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ
3) for the forgiveness of sins
4) and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit
Acts 3:19-20 –
1) Repent
2) be converted/turn
3) so that your sins will be wiped out
4) that seasons of refreshment may come….
This makes Peter’s statements parallel and makes a powerful argument for the necessity of baptism. Conversion/returning to God takes place at our baptism.
