Acts 8:1 – Why Didn’t the Apostle Leave Town?
Acts 8:1 HCSB Saul agreed with putting him to death. On that day a severe persecution broke out against the church in Jerusalem, and all except the apostles were scattered throughout the land of Judea and Samaria.
Recently I was asked the question as to why the apostles stayed behind, why they were not forced to leave. While obviously conjecture, here are three possibilities: the advice of Gamaliel (Acts 5:34-40); the apostles’ popularity (5:13); fear of the apostles (5:11). Sometimes leaders are not attacked because they become martyrs. Persecuting the “little people” would not bring the same rallying cry because of their unfamiliarity
